Thank You Is Nice 🙇♂️
I reside in Dubai, the world's most gorgeous city. One could argue that charm is subjective. Everyone, whether they like or dislike Dubai, agrees that it is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. It is such a diverse and inclusive city that by 10 a.m. every day, I have already interacted with at least five different nationalities and heard a number of languages being spoken; today alone, I have interacted with seven different nationalities.
This post is about thankfulness and the simple act of expressing "thank you." Dubai deserves its own piece.
This morning, as I was driving back home from the gym, I stopped at a pedestrian crossing to let a woman of apparent Asian ethnicity cross the street on her bicycle. The woman did not offer me the occasional nod and I could not see her say "thank you" because she was wearing a mask; instead, she bowed. She bowed! And I greatly appreciated that.
What went wrong with humanity? Why do we not say "thank you" as frequently as we formerly did? Who claimed a head nod, "yeah" or eye contact replaces two very plain and straightforward words? Say "thank you"; it is polite, it is nice, and you can always bow if you choose.
